研究內容:
粒子物理的任務是在越來越高的能量或者說越來越小的尺度上探索構成物質的基本粒子及其相互作用。上個世紀發展起來的粒子物理標準模型已經在1011電子伏特即100GeV的能量尺度上得到了非常精確的驗證。而各種理論和實驗的跡象都暗示,在1012電子伏特即TeV的能量尺度上,很可能會有超出標準模型的新物理出現。本領域的研究內容,一方面是提出各種可能存在的新物理模型的設想,另一方面是探究如何在當前和未來的實驗中尋找和檢驗這些新物理模型。目前在瑞士和法國邊境上運行的大型強子對撞機(LHC)是有史以來人類建造的能量最高的對撞機,其質心系能量可達到14TeV,因而很有希望發現新物理的跡象。此外,各種暗物質直接和間接探測的實驗以及中微子振蕩的實驗也將為探索新物理提供線索。本方向的研究內容包括但不限于:
1.精確計算強子對撞機高能過程中的各種量子漲落效應,特別是QCD高階輻射修正和重求和方法的研究。
2.希格斯(Higgs)粒子的性質及其在加速器上物理信號的研究,包括各種新物理模型(例如超對稱模型,小希格斯模型,弱高重態希格斯場模型等)所預言的其他新標量粒子的探索。
3.頂夸克物理的研究,包括頂夸克產生和衰變,頂夸克有效場論的研究,探索如何在大型強子對撞機上通過頂夸克粒子尋找新物理信號。
4.暗物質性質以及在非加速器/加速器上物理信號的研究,如利用各種暗物質模型對暗物質直接和間接探測實驗的宇宙線觀測數據解釋的探索。
5.超對稱大統一理論,及其在味物理中精確檢驗的探索。
6.中微子質量起源和混合矩陣的研究,包括在對撞機上探測與其相關的新物理實驗信號的研究。

科研成果:
1.在LHC上,希格斯粒子的主要來源是由質子中的膠子組分通過量子效應而產生的,即所謂的膠子融合過程。而膠子正是QCD理論中強相互作用力的攜帶者,它們之間具有非常復雜的非線性自相互作用。正因為如此,這一碰撞過程受到很強的QCD量子效應的影響,很難做出非常精確的理論預言。楊李林和他的合作者當時正在考察改進對這一過程計算精度的可能性。他們在一次討論中突然想到,有一類非常重要的量子效應實際上具有一個非常簡單的來源。他們進而提出了一種新的方法,可以非常精確地計算這一類量子效應。以此為基礎,他們得到了當時世界上對于這一過程最為精確的理論預言。
2.在頂夸克領域的一系列工作成為Tevatron和LHC對撞機上各大實驗組在測量頂夸克對產生時采用的標準理論參考文獻。基于他們的研究,Tevatron上的D0實驗組在歷史上首次直接測量到頂夸克在改進的最小減除方案下的質量。他們的工作還被粒子數據工作組(PDG)于2012年發布的新版《粒子物理評論》(Review of Particle Physics)收錄。《粒子物理評論》是粒子物理學的權威指南,包括了粒子物理各個領域最重要的進展。
